Teaching Best Practice Back to archive

On Tuesday and Wednesday, teachers took part in a two-day training festival while all the students were in exams or revision. We were fortunate to be visited by the world-famous Barry Hymer (pictured below), who spoke to us about Promoting Challenge, Risk Taking and Independence.

Staff then chose from a variety of workshops, including Effective Questioning for Higher Order Thinking, Teaching Students with Dyspraxia, and Research Skills for Students. We were pleased to be joined by 28 staff from local or partner schools.

Our outreach work with local schools has been thriving this year: we have been teaching Music GCSE, Latin A Level and Psychology A Level to students at Cranbrook and High Weald, and many staff are teaching students in the Kent Academy Network during our last week of term, as well as most departments running joint projects with students from the John Wallis Academy.

We all benefit from these fruitful partnerships and it is an important part of our work with the community.
