A New School Hall

Almost 80 years after it was built for a school of around 200 pupils, we have outgrown the current School Hall. Benenden needs a new Hall fit for today’s school and for the future, one that can fit our 550 girls plus staff in comfort.

Designed by the multi award-winning Guy Hollaway Architects, the new School Hall will offer state-of-the-art acoustics and will give girls and audiences a truly professional performance experience.

In addition, retractable seating will provide the flexibility for the Hall to be used for a variety of events, while the bar area and catering facilities will enable the facility to be hired out to maximise its benefit to the community.

Crucially, the Hall will make the most of its position in one of the most beautiful parts of the School site, and the new design will retain some tiered seating which has been such a treasured part of the current Hall for generations of Benenden girls.

“The School Hall has an honoured place in the lives of Benenden girls past and present and it is right that we should now reimagine it for the needs of the School in 2019 and beyond, to ensure it remains at the centre of our community for generations to come. For performances, sound and lighting must play an essential part in the creation of a new space; they need to adapt to suit different needs, from small-scale concerts and masterclasses, to School Services and large-scale orchestral concerts too.”
