Another strong year of A Level results at Benenden Back to archive
17th August 2017

The Headmistress of Benenden School has praised the strong performance of A Level students.

In results announced today (Thursday 17 August) 26 per cent of Benenden’s grades were A*. It is particularly pleasing for more than a quarter of all grades to be at the very top level in a year where reaching the top grade has become more demanding as a result of Government reforms.

As ever, behind the overall figures there were some outstanding individual results. Forty-two girls (45 per cent) achieved at least three A grades and 10 per cent of girls are celebrating at least three A* grades each.

In addition to Cambridge and Oxford, Benenden girls have secured places on highly selective courses at prestigious universities including the London School of Economics (LSE), Imperial College London, Durham and Edinburgh. Twelve per cent of girls have earned places on Medicine and Science-related courses and 11 per cent will be studying at sought-after institutions in America, including MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) which was ranked number one in the QS 2018 World University Rankings.

As well as traditional subjects such as English and History, medical, ethical and political topics are extremely popular, with many girls choosing to study joint or combined honours courses such as Liberal Arts, Natural Sciences, International Relations and Anthropology.

Headmistress Samantha Price said: “I am delighted with our results, particularly in the first year of transition to the new A Levels. Students should be extremely proud of their considerable individual achievements within this even more rigorous system.

“The girls now face an exciting future, as they embark upon their courses of higher education at top institutes across the world.”

Benenden offers one of the most innovative curriculums in the country. Alongside their A Levels, girls take a Professional Skills Programme, unique to Benenden and which was launched in September. This covers employability skills and helps to prepare the girls for their future careers.

Sixth Form life at Benenden includes a range of vibrant co-curricular opportunities and lectures and seminars from leading national figures, as well as space and time to live, learn and grow in a dynamic modern boarding campus. A limited number of Sixth Form scholarships will be available for 2018 and 2019.

The School will be holding a Sixth Form Open Evening on 21 September at 6.00pm so Year 9 and Year 10 girls and their parents can find out more. Anyone interested should email or call 01580 240592.
