Benenden celebrates World Book Day! Back to archive
3rd March 2017

Benenden was taken over by a variety of book characters as girls got into the spirit of World Book Day yesterday.

It was impossible to walk around the School without seeing a girl dressed in spotted clothing as the entire Six Two came as 101 Dalmatians! Other literary inspirations included Lord of the Flies, The Princess and the Pea, Dr Seuss and even some girls dressed as a colouring book.

The Library also ran a craft and cake sale which raised £400 for Breadline Africa.

Prizes were awarded for the best costumes and after much debate a trio of Upper Fifths dressed as Josie and the Pussycats took first place. Second place went to the girls who dressed as characters from The Bible and girls who dressed as Cinderella took third place.

This is now the 20th year of World Book Day. It is the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
