Mrs Claire Oulton, Headmistress, welcomes former parents to the
School for the launch event for the Benenden Society, June 2009
The Benenden Society is an informal group of friends of Benenden School. The Society was launched at a Drinks Party on 19 June 2009. There is no joining fee and anyone who has had a daughter at Benenden, has been a member of staff, a Trustee, a Member of Council at Benenden or who was formerly a Friend of Benenden can 'join' and you will be very welcome.
Why should I join the Society?
Many of us have had a close association with Benenden for around seven years and have made many friends among the Parent body or with members of staff. The Society offers a way to stay in touch with the school and with fellow Parents and Staff.
What will the Society do?
We will start slowly, but we will organise lunches, drinks parties, cultural events and maybe even overseas trips which Society members with similar interests can enjoy. The Society will be similar to the Parents' Events Committee and on occasions will arrange joint events.
My daughter has left Benenden and I believe I am a member of the Benenden Society?
Parents who have a daughter who left in 2009 or later will automatically become a member of the Benenden Society. If you prefer to opt out you will have to contact the Society co-ordinator to let us know you do not wish to be a part of the Society. You can do this at any time.
My daughter left before 2009 how do I join?
Our plan is to use this web page and email to stay in touch, thereby avoiding expensive postal charges where possible. If you wish to register your name as a member of the Society please email Jane Healey our Benenden Society co-ordinator on Benendensociety@blueyonder.co.uk
How do I find out what is going on?
You will be emailed when an event has been organised and you will be able to download an application form from the website if it is not already attached to the email.
Where will the events be held?
Some of the Events will be at Benenden, most others will be held elsewhere in Kent or London. In many cases the event itself will dictate the venue, but often as in the case of drinks parties we are always seeking venues, particularly in London where we do not have to incur high hire charges. If you can offer us such a venue I would urge you to contact us.
Will there be a charge for the events?
There will usually be a charge per person for the events but the charge will be at cost price. We do not aim to make a profit from any of the Benenden Society Events. If however, you are invited to a Benenden fundraising event it will be clearly stated as to where the funds will be allocated.
If you have further questions or suggestions please do not hesitate to email me.
When our daughters leave Benenden it is often the day when we say goodbye to good friends. The Society offers a chance to stay in touch with many of the people we have enjoyed spending time with and with whom we have many shared experiences. We do hope that you will decide to join us.
