Drama plays a very important role in school life. A wide range of skills and talents can be nurtured through participation in Drama, including confidence building, assertiveness training, voice production, movement, mime, improvisation, empathy and dance. Technical skills too can be acquired, such as stage design, wardrobe, sound, lighting and theatrical make-up, as well as many leadership roles and general people management skills.
There are weekly opportunities for students to perform in workshops and showcases, there are several plays performed each year and students are able to build an exciting career in Drama while at the School, both in classroom acitivities and by taking drama as an extra-curricular activity.
With recent investment in the Drama facilities at school, including a new theatre, the opportunities within Drama are almost unlimited. Recent productions have ranged from the musicals "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "Me and My Girl", through Shakespeare's "The Tempest", Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and a recent three-day DramaFest. Whenever possible, performances are taken outside of School and recently have been performed in a variety of venues, from The London Palladium, to local schools and the village green. Qualifications on offer include Drama and Theatre Arts at GCSE and Drama and Theatre Studies at A Level. In addition everyone has the chance to develop independently through individual speech and drama lessons, preparing for ESB and LAMDA exams in acting, mime, reading, spoken English and public speaking to Diploma standard. Students regularly participate in major debating and public speaking competitions.
