Karri Byrne - International Rescue lecture

Karri Byrne from the International Rescue Committee came to talk to the School about her work.  Introduced to the audience by former Headmistress, Gillian du Charme, Karri spoke passionately and at times emotionally of the work that she and other members of the International Rescue Committee undertakes.

The committee was founded in 1933 at the suggestion of Albert Einstein, to rescue families fleeing Nazi persecution.  Today the work is continued with helping some of the most vulnerable people in the world: those who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, conflict or persecution.  They are one of the few agencies that remain after the fighting has ended, helping communities to move towards a more stable and secure future by enabling people to rebuild their lives and communities.

For a number of pupils this lecture was an inspiration and following questions determined them to get involved with the organisation when they have finished their formal education.
