Academic

Above and beyond academic excellence. You can come out with top results at Benenden, but there is as much emphasis on the complete child.

Benenden’s academic programme aims to encourage a lifelong enthusiasm for learning and discovery. There is a traditional, broad and forward-looking curriculum, providing education in its widest sense, while giving students opportunities to develop specialist knowledge and skills. By the time a student leaves Benenden, she should have achieved her best possible grades at GCSE, AS and A Level and be ready to progress to the next stage of her chosen path.

Cross-curricular skills are cultivated. During the early years cross-curricular visits are arranged to France, Spain and Austria. The ability to work independently is essential to enjoyment and success. Students have every opportunity and support to acquire necessary skills. Each student has an Academic Tutor, with whom she can discuss her studies.

The core subjects up to GCSE are English, Mathematics, the three sciences and a modern language and all students take at least another three subjects to GCSE level chosen from a wide selection. In Fourth to Lower Fifth (Years 7 to 9) every student takes two modern languages. Timetabling at GCSE and in the Sixth Form allows maximum range and flexibility in subject choice.
